Yet, the Bible calls for a clear differentiation between men and women in certain roles ... the following is excerpted and paraphrased from Dr. David Hocking's "Hope For Today" weekly e-mail HFT Connect (www.davidhocking.org):

Q: "Is there anything wrong with having a woman pastor?  Our church is now considering this.  Thanks for your help."

A: Thank you for your question.  Today there are many women speakers and teachers and many churches who have women as pastors.  This makes our answer much more difficult as well as important ... 

There were women preachers in the Bible (prophetess), but no record of any woman being the pastor of a church.  The argument of I Timothy 2 concerns the relationship of a wife to her husband.  The word for "man" in the Greek language is "aner" or "andras" and is the only word that can be used if the reference refers to a husband.  The general word "anthropos" is not used in any of the passages (I Corinthians 11 & 14 and I Timothy 2) dealing with the submission of women to men.  In other words, the Bible does NOT teach that submission of all women to all men; rather, the Bible emphasizes the submission of a wife to her husband only (just as husbands are commanded to submit to Jesus Christ (Messiah ... God's Word) and are commanded to love their wives and sacrifice themselves for their wives as Messiah (Christ) loved and sacrificed Himself for His Church)!   Both wives and husbands have different, difficult, yet important, responsibilities and roles according to the Bible  ...

We also have the problem of the qualifications of an "elder" or "bishop" or "pastor" (as found in the Bible.)  These are given to us in I Timothy 3 and Titus 1.  The "elder" (leader of the church) is to be the "husband of one wife" ("a one-woman man"... no polygamy) and the "father" of children (no priestly celibacy is suggested or commanded).  If a given church considers the "pastor" or "minister" to be an "elder" or "bishop" then it appears that a woman should not be in that position.

There is no problem with women teaching God's Word.  In the Bible, there are only two restrictions upon the ministry of women:  One - they must be under the authority of their husbands - if not, many problems can be created (for the same reason there is only one captain of a ship ... the captain doesn't make all of the decisions ... but must have the authority when decisions have to be made ... for God lovingly gave organization and order to families and to the Church)!  Second - they cannot be "elders" or "bishops" or "pastors" (leader or head of the church ... reverends, rabbis, ministers, priests, etc.).  With the approval of the elders of a local church, there is no reason why a woman could not teach in the church ... but not as an "elder" or "bishop" or "pastor," according to the Bible.

Note:  The Bible also warns "sinful pride" will provoke us to rebel against submitting to any authority ... even God and His Rules.  It's the old "nobody (even God) is going to tell me what to do!" attitude which we (as Christians) must struggle against as we willingly and lovingly submit to the authority of God and His Word ... for the Bible promises that all who do so will be richly rewarded in Heaven.

--Drudge/Reuters    Since the Soviet state-religion was "atheism" (which is now our state-religion) most of the Russian churches that are (at least for now) allowed to openly teach the Bible are new and fresh enough that they still take the Bible (God's Word) seriously.  Halloween comes from a pagan ritual and was never 'celebrated' by Christians or even celebrated in the US until fairly recent times.  Believing Christians should not get too caught up in the "hallowed eve" spirit ... many Christian churches now hold a fall festival for kids with lots of candy and fun stuff in order to offer an alternative.  If you do a diligent study of Halloween you will find it is neither Christian or "kid-friendly"... but, Madison Avenue has turned it into a major 'holiday' (actually an unholy day), and many people who show a little concern and take their relationship with God and their kids' relationship with God (and God's Word) seriously will now be pooh-poohed and ridiculed.  But, as the Bible teaches, believing Christians need to keep their eyes focused on "the prize"... which we are told will be our eternal life in Heaven (and being "saved" out of the alternative) ... and we are told in the Bible not to be concerned with what the "world" says or thinks when we try our best to do what the Bible tells us to do, and when we try our best to stay away from those things the Bible tells us to stay away from ... (Prophecies ...
