A Special Note to Readers: As often noted, don't believe all you read here, but, please search the Scriptures to see if these things are true. Bible prophecy allows both the diligent and the skeptical to test God's word . . .
The Bible warns a single generation will see the fulfillment of many extraordinary prophecies. We believe the generation which the Bible warns about is alive today. We expect you to challenge this statement. To do so, simply learn the Bible prophecies, study the world news ... and pray for wisdom. The question is ... are the events we are now seeing today around the world simply "random noise" in the annals of history ... and have they or even could they have happened in any previous generation ... or ... are the events we are seeing (individually and collectively) "statistically significant" and unique in history to the generation that is alive today? For example, the Bible warns Iran (Persia) and specific allies will one day attack and invade Israel. In Ezekiel 38-39 the Bible warns a coming war between Iran (Persia) and Israel will take place sometime after Israel has been re-gathered into Her Land ... this war has never yet taken place ... the only time in history Persia (Iran) has ever gone to war against Israel was to help Israel throw off the yoke of the Byzantine Empire around 614 AD. Back in the mid-1990s when I was preparing the Bible prophecies book, people were saying it could not be "this generation" because Russia had "collapsed" and could not be a military threat or power again for many, many years. I went ahead and stated in the book (following my best understanding of Bible prophecies) that Russia would rise again as a military power and would soon rise again as a threat ... and while two Bible teachers I respect disagree whether the Iran invasion of Israel takes place before the coming battle of Armageddon or during the final battle of Armageddon ... they both agree the "Rapture" will probably take place before this coming prophetic war . . . in that same prophecies book you will find a section warning 10 nations of the ancient Roman Empire will re-unite and rise in power (I have a bias toward Europe, but the Roman Empire did stretch across Europe, parts of the Middle-East, and Northern Africa) ... and after the book was published the fledgling 'European Union' introduced its first common currency since the Roman Empire, introduced a new European flag, a European Parliament, a European 'national' anthem, and has now formed and even deployed a European Union army as a 'peace-keeping' force for the first time since the ancient Roman Empire. While drafting a new European Constitution the leaders of three of the largest nations commented that the European Union was like a Boeing 747 without a pilot ... so they put the 'job description' into the Constitution (which failed initially) for an unelected leader to lead what would be the most powerful economic block on Earth ... the new constitution would give this coming leader a title, power, an office, and an expense account. When we study the prophecies of the 'Antichrist' (just one of around 30 titles he has been given in the Bible) one starts to take note. These are just three examples of why it is important start taking current events, world history, and Bible prophecy seriously . . .
This Weekly News Update goes out to a select group of people from around the world ... those who receive this Weekly News Update include both believers and non-believers ... pastors and rabbis (whom I hope will help via e-mail to correct any Scriptural errors) ... and Christians and Jews ... some of you and your families were even forcibly removed and "uprooted" from Gaza ... others of you now live in the volatile Golan Heights area of Israel ... but all of you are watching God's prophetic word slowly unfold, while Messiah, the Savior who saves us from our sins and from Hell and from the bitterness of the Day of God's Wrath, warns us to "Watch!" and to know when the time draws near ... (Warning Signs): We Will Know When We Are Close)
Jesus Christ (Yeshua Ha'Mashiach in Hebrew) warns,
"Now learn this parable from the fig tree (Israel):"
"When its branch has already become tender
and puts forth leaves, (Israel re-gathering in the land)
you know that summer is near.
Also, when you see all these things,
know that it is near-- at the doors!
Assuredly, I say to you, this generation
will by no means pass away
till all these things take place."
(Mark 13:28-30 - also see Matt 24:32-34, Luke 21:29-33)
Let’s take a closer look at these important verses in order to get a better sense of the significance of what the Lord is trying to tell us, or more importantly what He is trying to warn us about . . .
1. Jesus says - "Now learn this parable from the fig tree:"
There are several places in the Bible where God uses the fig tree as an idiom for Israel.
2. "When its branch has already become tender and puts forth leaves, you know that summer is near."
"And puts forth leaves . . . " This refers to Israel being re-gathered in the Land. This is a parable, so Jesus-Yeshua is painting a "word picture." The verses in Ezekiel 36-37 help us out by explaining to us that "shooting forth its branches" refers to Israel being re-gathered in the Land. Like a tree in winter, Israel has been lying dormant for about 2,000 years, looking dead and barren to the world. Then, in May of 1948 it sprang back to life and like the re-birth of a tree in springtime started "shooting forth its branches" . . .
"And you, son of man, prophesy to the mountains of Israel,
and say, ‘O mountains of Israel,
hear the word of the LORD ...’"
"But you, O mountains of Israel,
you shall shoot forth your branches
and yield your fruit to My people Israel,
for they are about to come . . .
For I will take you (Israel) from among the nations,
gather you out of all countries,
and bring you into your own Land."
(Ezekiel 36:1, 8, 24)
"Thus says the Lord GOD:
‘Surely I will take the children of Israel from among the nations,
wherever they have gone,
and will gather them from every side
and bring them into their own Land;’"
(Ezekiel 37:21) (God gave all of Israel to the children of Israel ... it's their Land.)
We can now watch "its branch become tender and put forth leaves" as Israel has begun to prosper. Miraculously, this tiny nation of Israel is today one of the largest exporters of fruit and flowers in the world. Jesus is warning us that when we see these things, we should know that "summer is near," meaning we are close to His return, and that awesome and terrifying "final harvest," which prophet after prophet has cried out and warned against will soon be upon us.
3. "Also, when you see all these things, know that it is near-- at the doors!"
Can’t you sense the urgency in His voice? We cannot comprehend the global destruction which will someday soon sweep across this world. Jesus-Yeshua gives these warnings because we are told that those who are alive and wait for Him in faith will be pulled out or "raptured" just before God’s wrath is poured out on a violent and unbelieving world.
4. "Assuredly, I say to you, this generation will by no means pass away"
Q. Which generation?
A. The generation that sees Israel re-gathering back in the Land.
Q. Well, isn’t that generation alive today?
A. I think so.
Q. How long is a generation?
A. I really don’t know, but God answers most questions. Let’s look at a couple of verses from Psalm 90, which is provocative in that it is the only Psalm written by Moses and seems to come out of nowhere . . .
"The days of our lives are seventy years;
And if by reason of strength they are eighty years . . .
who knows the power of Your anger?"
(Psalm 90:10,11) (The coming Great Tribulation, sometimes called the 'Apocalypse,' is also call the Day of God's Wrath ... or Anger)
Is then the fullness of a generation 70 - 80 years? Did a prophetic countdown start with the Nation in 1948, or when Israel regained control over their capital city of Jerusalem in 1967? We don’t know. But, we are warned to "Watch!" We will never know the day or the hour. However, "this generation" which mocks God and His Word will someday know "the power of His anger . . ."
(As a note, the word translated "generation" can also be translated "people," meaning the children of Israel. We know from prophecy that even though the armies of the world will one day try to destroy the children of Israel the Bible says a remnant of the children of Israel will survive and will receive the final fulfillment of all the promises and covenants which God has promised to them. The 13 Bible translations I checked all translated the word 'generation', but it could still mean this generation and this people (the Jews) will "by no means pass away"... also, there are some who teach "this generation" referred to those living at the time of Jesus-Yeshua, which is a little difficult to support when you consider it in context with the sweeping scope of what He follows it with ...)
5. "Till all these things take place."
"All these things" means everything including the Rapture, the coming Apocalypse, Armageddon, and Messiah's return . . .
"Take heed (to the prophetic warnings)
watch (what is going on) ...
and pray (see below);
for you do not know when the time is (the coming Rapture).
It is like a man going to a far country,
who left his house and gave authority to his servants, and to each his work,
and commanded the doorkeeper to watch.
Watch therefore,
for you do not know when the master of the house is coming --
in the evening, at midnight, at the crowing of the rooster, or in the morning --
lest, coming suddenly, he find you sleeping.
And what I say to you, I say to all: Watch!"
(Mark 13:33-37)
"When you see
these things,
know that it is near - -
at the door!"
(Mark 13:29)
"Watch therefore,
and pray always
that you may be
counted worthy to escape
all these things
that will come to pass . . ."
(Luke 21:36)
When will the coming Rapture take place?
We do not know, and we are told that no man will ever know the day or the hour. However, there doesn’t appear to be anything left in prophecy that needs to be fulfilled before the coming Rapture can take place, so, it could easily happen any day . . .
The Lord says it could happen at any moment, "in the twinkling of an eye." He says it will happen at a time when the world will least expect it. We are told we should always be prepared by simply believing in Him and waiting for Him in faith. We are also taught we should help prepare others . . . He told us over and over to "Watch!" and that we will know when we are getting close ...
