Shortly after the Persian general Cyrus the Great conquered the great empire and city of Babylon, he was presented with an ancient scroll of the prophet Isaiah written 150 YEARS EARLIER in which God called Cyrus BY NAME and described his battle plan and the events which would surround his victory over Babylon ... (refer. ancient Jewish-Roman historian Flavius Josephus (Joseph ben Mattathias ... 37 AD - (est.)100 AD), "Antiquities of the Jews" 93 AD).
Cyrus the Great was so awed by these Bible prophecies (which he and his army had just fulfilled) that he released the Jews from their captivity (exactly 70 years after they were brought under bondage ... just as the prophet Jeremiah had prophesied and written 70 years earlier ... see Jeremiah 25:11-12, Jeremiah 29:10) and Cyrus was so impressed he also gave the children of Israel monetary incentives to return to Israel and rebuild their Temple ... I suggest to anybody reading this to take ALL Bible prophecies, and ALL Bible warnings (concerning sin and Hell), and ALL Bible promises (concerning eternal life in Heaven), seriously ... God says what He means and He means what He says. Here, God clearly warns all those who simply tolerate or "approve of " these things with their great "open-mindedness" will be held just as guilty as those who actually do them. This prophecy is very crucial for those who have not accepted Jesus Christ (Yeshua Ha'Mashiach in Hebrew) as their Lord and will be alive when this law is enacted and enforced. This "mark" may be some kind of tattoo, or implanted microchip with all of your credit card and banking information, we really don’t know right now. It will not be easy to refuse this mark, whatever it is, for many of you will have families and children that will need to be fed. But, please be warned . . . by taking this mark, you will have sealed your eternal fate in Hell. In God’s eyes it identifies you with the Antichrist. For the believing Christian who disobeys God (which will be all believing Christians at times throughout this life), enduring the chastisement (or "spankings") from God (in the form of various troubles) isn't "joyful" or pleasant, but when it is over we find comfort in knowing the Lord truly loves us, and as a loving Father helps us to develop the obedience, the patience, and the humility we need to grow and walk in faith as His "sons" (and daughters) . . .
"And have you forgotten the exhortation (the encouraging words)
which God speaks to you as sons (and daughters)?

‘My son, do not despise the chastening (discipline ... punishment ... "spankings") of the Lord,
nor be discouraged when you are rebuked by Him;
For whom the Lord loves He chastens,

for what son is there whom a father does not chasten?"

Not all trials in the life of a believing Christian are from chastening. We may never know the reason until we get to Heaven. But suffering in the life of the believer helps conform us into His image and helps us to become more like Him in patience, gentleness, kindness, humility, compassion, forgiveness, and obedience. Faith provides the strength and power we need to make it through our various trials, tests, and difficulties.

An engineer I know was the engineering officer and navigator onboard a submarine in the South Pacific during WWII. As with most others in his generation he knew the Bible well enough to know about the "legendary" Israel. But to him, and many who came before him, Israel was just that, a land from the past that held no meaning to his future. Israel had not been a sovereign nation since the Babylonian captivity some 2,500 years ago. Many churches have simply 'allegorized' those prophecies in the Bible that warned God was not through with the nation or children of Israel. Most would have thought back then that if and when nation Israel did once again appear on the map the world would rejoice in awe and wonderment. The thought of all nations turning against one nation is absurd ... not all nations turned against Nazi Germany, not all nations turned against Saddam's Iraq, and not all nations have turned against the murderous regimes of Zimbabwe, Sudan, Russia, China, Cuba, or Iran. Yet, this ancient book, the Bible, which was in circulation thousands of years before WWII, stated clearly that God would one day bring Israel back into Her Land as a nation and then all the nations of the world would turn against her and try to wipe her off the map. When the US turned against Israel on Gaza, the first stage of this 'absurd' prophecy began fulfilling ... only one nation on Earth (Micronesia) supported Israel's right to her land (in Judah - Gaza). Now, for many, the idea that all the nations of the world will one day go to war against this tiny nation of Israel (at Armageddon) sounds absurd ... or, that one day in the future, this tiny nation of Israel will be the sole 'Superpower' who will rule the world under her King and Messiah, who stepped forth "from old, from everlasting" and was born of a virgin in Bethlehem, the city of King David, exactly as the ancient prophecies said He would (see Micah 5:2).
